Spinal Decompression

Though they are two different types of therapy, many of our patients interchange “decompression” with what they call “traction”.  If you have a lasting back or neck pain that has disrupted your life, many of our patients have utilized our non-surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy (SDT).

SDT is a type of motorized traction that can relieve back and neck pain by gently stretching the spine.  This stretching takes the pressure off the spinal discs, which are gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine, by creating negative pressure in the disc.  As a result, bulging or herniated discs may retract, taking pressure off nerves and other structures in your spine. This, in turn, helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the discs so they can heal.

Doctors and physical therapists have used non-surgical SDT in an attempt to treat:

  • back pain
  • neck pain
  • sciatica (pain, weakness, or tingling that extends down the leg)
  • bulging or herniated disks
  • degenerative disk disease
  • worn spinal joints (called posterior facet syndrome)
  • injured or diseased spinal nerve roots

Ask your doctor or physical therapist if Spinal Decompression would be a good option for you.
